DJ Ray Dartley launches Positive Age Week

Popular DJ Ray Dartley helped launch Positive Age Week at a small tea party in the Merion Hotel yesterday(18.11.08). Pensioners Maeve Reilly, John Murphy and Mary O'Keefe joined him to toast the new initative.

Positive Age Week's central aim is to dispel the many negative perceptions that surround ageing and to transform attitudes. It is also an opportunity to raise many needed funds for the charity.

Lorraine Dorgan, deputy chief executive of Age Action Ireland said:"We need to celebrate the fact that we are living longer;that ageing is not such a burden but an opportunity. I would like to encourage as many people as possible around the country to take part in Positive Age Week."
During Positive Age Week, people are encouraged to organise parties that celebrate the elderly. They can be anything from a small family gathering to a street a street party. A nominated fundraiser at each party will accept donations from those attending.
Age Action Ireland is the national independent organisation on ageing and older people. Its main aim is to improve the quality of life of older people especially those who are most disadvantaged and vulnerable by enabling them to live, full independent and satisfied lives for as long as they wish to stay in their own homes.
Positive Age Week will run from Monday 8th-Sunday 15th December 2008. To register as a fundraiser for Positive Age Week contact Lorraine Dorgan on 012345678 or visit http://www.ageaction.ie/.

Google...Getting to No.1!!

Usually when I go onto the google webpage and i'm looking up something I usually just click the first link that is on the page because I really couldn't be bothered searching through all the other links.
When you're actually looking for just a small piece of information you can never find it because of that many pages that are almost unnecessary!! The internet is a super highway of information so tahnks to search engines such as google we are able to find the information we need. The most necessary links are more than likely the ones we see at the side of the page because thay are called paid links and contain all necessary and inmportant facts we need. The most suprising thing about these paid links is the fact that only 20% of internet users click on them because people click the Organic links at the beginning of the page.
Caompanies are in a constant battle with each other every single day to appear number one on google. Search Engine Optimisation involves getting links to your site by identifying key words and phrases. Think in a simple way think in the way that other people would when entering a phrase into google. When setting up your webpage include the key phrase in the title of your webpage. This inturn increases your chance of appearing number one.
With the internet becoming such a popular place for people shopping, blogging and doing business online I believe that it is very important for a business to take advantage of the internet as much as possible and I believe that it is more beneficial for companies to use paid links because that way more people will see your page and you will always be number one!!!

What I think about the Online Sex Industry..

My first thought about the online sex indusrty was of pervy old men exploiting woman in some way. Everybody uses sex in some shape or form to sell something. Many companies use it to sell some of their products. The online sex industry is very degrading for both men and woman. Many people visit online porn sites to catch a glimpse of something they might not be getting at home. I really don't like these sites because I believe it to be almost a form of prostitution women and man being paid to have sex, but I guess if that is your thing!!

The most alarming thing about online sex industry is the human trafficking. Women and children are being bought by maybe old men who use them for their bodies for sex performing dehumanising acts on them. It is mainly young girls that are involved in this some being as young as seven or eight years old. This in my opinion is so horrible to think of many young girls being raped eveyday of their life because of pervy old men trying to get a bit of action.
Some people that purchase a woman or child off the internet may also put videos of the young girls and boys being sexually abused on various porn sites that get many hits. This to me is sickening as no one should have to go through life like that and the thought of men around the world logging onto internet sites to watch the coverage is disgraceful and they shold all be thrown in jail if you ask me.
Well there you have it you know now what I think about the online sex industry!!!

Mace Monday=]

ShopsIts Mace Monday!! Yes people Emma Jane and myself travel down in the cold to get to Mace beside the college because its Mace Monday. The whole way down to Mace Emma Jane will fight with herself saying "Lorenzo, What am I going to get?". She finally decides she id going to get wedges. Then five minutes later it will be a sausage roll the n it will be wedges again and when we finally get to Mace she will say that she thinks she wants beans and waffles out of the canteen!!! We love Mace Monday.=]

Life..

smiley faceLife...Sometimes its really hard. I had such a bad weekend and now it's monday the start of the week. Sometimes you just realise that life can't always bring you the things that you want and you just have to let something go to make you realise how much you want it.

So i am just going to go with the flow of things and see how they turn out and I hope that everything works itself out. Its Monday again and christmas break starts in about two weeks so i haven't got much to be complainin about! Hopefully the big man upstairs will help me out a little bit. L&G:)
Lifes too short.

My view on Virtual Communities

I never really had a great idea about virtual communities before we started the lectures . I knew about Bebo and hotmail but I never realised how many different virtual commuities were available to the world! For someone who does not know what a virtual community is it is a gathering place for people and businesses that do not have a physical existence. In my opinion I believe virtual communities to be a good idea sites like bebo and myspace allow people all over the world to communicate with each other. If it wasn't for Bebo I wouldn't be able to contact my aunt who lives in Australia as much.

However, the only bad sides to virtual communities is the sleezy side that we hear about on a day to day basis. For example older men preying on younger girls and boys on chat rooms pretending to be someone of the same age and asking them to meet up. I feel that is the dangerous side of virtual communities because there is very little privacy on the web and people can easily have access to pictures and contact information. This is the bad side to these virtual communities that not many people like to hear about.

One of the main things that struck me about virtual communities was how people can express the things that they are passionate about and they are able to meet people with similar interests to them. From learning about these communities I was struck by how other worlds can be created. For example we learned about something called 'Second Life'. It is basically another world where people can create a profile and actually enter a pub called 'The Blarney Stone' were they can meet and chat with other members of this community. They can mingle with other people and dance. It took me a little while to actually get my head around the fact that real people worked in this 'Second Life'. People from the real world getting paid for working in a virtual pub..I found this really interesting!
Another aspect involved in virtual communities that caught my attention was blogging. From starting my own blog I found it a really good way to talk about things tou like maybe things that annoy you also. In the past few years blogging has become very popular worldwide from celebrities to housewives blogging about their everyday thoughts. There you have it my view on virtual communities.=]

Make a wish=]

Make a wish and place it in your heart. Anything you want, everthing you want. Do you have it?Now believe it can come true. You never know where the next miracle is going to come from, the next smile, the next wish come true. But if you believe its right around the corner and you open you heart and mind to the possibility of it. You just might get the thing you're wishing for. The world is full of magic, you just have to believe in it. So make your wish. Do you have it? Good. Now believe in it with all your heart...♥
